We can categorize English words into 9 basic types called "parts of speech" or "word classes". It's quite important to recognize parts of speech.

Every word we speak can be categorized as to its part of speech.

So, for example, Is the part of speech is important for English.

• is is a verb

• the is an article

• part is a noun

• important is an adjective

• to is a preposition

• and so on and so forth.

• Every time we speak a word we use a part of speech.
